Survival depends on two different roles working together. Treat an approaching trap as a reason to coordinate your next move, rather than having both players act as though they steer the scooter.

Recognize the danger: Look for the trap affecting your immediate route. The driver needs to decide how to avoid it; the passenger's role is to hold on and survive. Agree on the danger before committing to the next movement.
Leave the dangerous situation: Have the driver guide the scooter away from the trap while the passenger focuses on holding on. Keep your attention on clearing that obstacle together, rather than diverting toward the optional scooter unlock.
Return to the objective: Once clear, check the next stretch for traps and confirm that both players are ready to continue. Resume toward the end of the obby, using checkpoints to save progress through each world.

Prioritize teamwork, checkpoints and the finish

Choose the next priority: Separate immediate survival from longer-term progress: avoiding the next trap keeps the ride going, checkpoints save progress through a world, and reaching the end completes the obby objective. Start with coordination if you and your partner are struggling at obstacles.
Work toward that objective: Agree who will drive and who will ride as passenger. The driver controls the scooter; the passenger holds on. Work through the obstacles together and make checkpoint progress your next milestone rather than focusing only on the distant finish.
When to switch priorities: If the same trap keeps interrupting your run, focus your attention on coordinating that passage. Once you can pass it together, shift attention to the next checkpoint. Pursuing the optional unlock instead takes attention away from solving the obstacle.
Plan the next session: Use the traps you struggled with and the checkpoints you reached to choose your next focus. An unresolved obstacle calls for more coordinated practice; progress beyond it gives you a new stretch of the obby to tackle together.
